Demetrius Bray is a displaced New Orleans resident. He has been living in Houston but attempts to return for the first second line since Hurricane Katrina. He misses the parade because his car breaks down and arrives at Gigi's lounge later in the day. He is a friend of David Maurice Brooks (also known as Daymo) and speaks to his sister LaDonna Batiste-Williams, the bar's owner. She tells him that Daymo went missing after the storm. He reveals that they were both in custody at Orleans Parish Penitentiary and were moved onto a bridge when the jail flooded.
