David Simon, born 1960 in Washington, D.C., United States, is a motion picture writer and producer, journalist and author. He is the series co-creator, with Eric Overmyer, and an Executive Producer.

He also created the series The Wire and was an Executive Producer and the show runner for the series entire duration. He wrote the books Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets and The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner City Neighborhood, both of which became television series. He was a writer and producer for Homicide: Life on the Street. He then adapted The Corner into a HBO miniseries of the same name. He also adapted the miniseries Generation Kill from the non-fiction book of the same name by Evan Walsh.

Following Treme Simon developed the HBO miniseries Show Me A Hero (2015). He then co-created the drama series The Deuce with George Pelecanos.
