"... To Miss New Orleans" is the series finale. It is the fifth and final episode of the fourth season. It is the thirty sixth episode of the series overall. It was first broadcast on HBO on December 29, 2013 and drew 0.397 million viewers. It was written by David Simon & Eric Overmyer and directed by Agnieszka Holland.

LaDonna returns her sons Alcide and Randall to New Orleans; to live with their father Antoine. Alcide is part of the Mardi Gras truck parade. Antoine and Desiree celebrate together but his interest is aroused when he runs into a couple of old acquaintances. LaDonna and Randall are thrilled to see Alcide pass but the festivities are disrupted by a gunman firing into the crowd. LaDonna and her family escape unscathed. Antoine and Larry bond over their shared love for their family and Larry leaves the door open for reconciliation with LaDonna. Antoine realises his dream of getting to play with Dr. John and his sons are there to enjoy the moment with him.

Davis throws himself into his work both as a DJ and a Sommelier at Janette's restaurant in a seeming mid-life crisis. He spends Mardi Gras with a concerned Janette, pretending to be an anthroplogist tourist before baptising himself as "Mr McAlary". He later returns to old patterns and comes up with a new album concept. Nelson collects his payout from his New Orleans interests but before leaving town he does Janette a favour - negotiating back her right to use her own name for her restaurant.

Terry testifies against the NOPD, incriminating himself for false report. He takes early retirement and leaves New Orleans behind to reunite with his family, ending his relationship with Toni.

Toni and Sofia enact their Mardi Gras family traditions together. Delmond continues his own family's traditions, but insists that George wear the chief's headdress despite his father's wishes. Delmond and Brandi resolve to split their time between Manhattan and New Orleans and to raise their daughter in the Indian tradition.

Annie misses Mardi Gras to record her album in Nashville. She and Marvin disagree over the production but she ultimately wins his respect with her assertiveness. Later she spots Sonny with Linh at a hometown gig and dedicates a song her to her former partner.

Antoine's band performs in public. With funding for the band cut by the school and the band now officially defunct, he asks Derrick Tabb to absorb the band into Derrick's Roots of Music program.
